  • Florida Gun Shows/ Shoot Straight not our friends

The promoter, Florida Gun Shows (Shoot Straight), has decided to ban private gun sales at all their shows. Calls were made to vendors (8/16/19) telling them that only licensed gun dealers will be able to buy guns from patrons and sell guns at their shows. That means background check, waiting period if you don't have a carry permit, paperwork and inflated costs. It also means selling to licensed dealers who are looking for a markup so the price you get will be reduced.

The reason for this is simple: the margin on new gun sales is low, maybe less than 10%. On used guns it is 50% or more. Khalid, the owner, hopes to drive the small sellers away so that he can take up the slack. This is certainly his right but it is an unacceptable assault on our ability to buy and sell and, thus, shows his disdain for the Second Amendment and for Florida gun owners (who have made him a wealthy man, BTW). Also, when you go to these shows it will be like going to a gun store rather than a true marketplace.

We should avoid all shows put on by Florida Gun Shows and boycott their brick and mortar stores which do business as Shoot Straight. Patronize Patriot Productions, 2 Guys Shows and the other promoters in Florida that show a bit of concern for the gun owning and buying public.

They will say, if you call, that they are observing local ordinances. Not true. Even where there is a local ordinance, there is an exception for a Concealed Carry license holder.

This isn't a commentary on the benefit of having universal background checks or having all sales go thru FFL holders, it is about a company going the law one better in the name of profit. We gun owners have enough problems without being blindsided by an entity that is supposed to be on our side.

I am on board with this action. Whatever the motive, its wrong and Shoot Straight shouldnít be rewarded by attending their shows. I do find the corporate gun show sellers in general to be a rip off, so I donít frequently attend them. As for Shoot Straight I donít do business with them either.

If you can't buy from an idividual, there is no reason to go to a gun show.

I consider Khaled a personal friend, and disagree with the original post.

        The OP states

If this were true, why allow any other vendors at all at his gun shows?

And, really, "shows his disdain for the second amendment and for Florida gun owners" ?!? That statement is laughable. I can assure you, Khaled's actions in this case are most certainly NOT profit-driven.

Now we're getting to the "meat" of the motivation here. It appears you simply are pi**ed off at Florida Gun Shows/Shoot Straight for not letting you do whatever the he** you want at their gun shows on state or privately owned property. There may be an exception for CC holders, but they simply don't have the time or resources to enforce this.

That's your opinion. Everyone's reasons are different. I go to get gunpowder and primers cheaper than buying online.
